A ton of snow just fell out of the sky onto Swansea. Quite thick everywhere. Local school was closed (lots of kids walking home throwing snowballs at each other). Cancelled nurse appointment as it looked as though roads would quickly become impassable. Has now stopped snowing and whilst it has settled heavily everywhere the road still looks clear-ish. Perhaps its because the temperature isn't below freezing at the moment? Anyway, will see if I can rearrange the appointment for this afternoon now.
Am now thinking that it might be easier to get the train home on Saturday. It would mean leaving some stuff in Swansea and since I'm not allowed to lift stuff I'd have to be put on the train and collected at the other end. Its easier for everyone than driving though. And it only costs £27. But its a nightmare journey - 2 carriages, 4 and a half hours and 16 stops. Hey ho, it doesn't happen every day. That's all for now. Will post again later. J x

If you do 'let the train take the strain' as Sir Jim'll Of Fix-It used to say make sure you make a meal of it. I'm expecting tales of 'the vapours', having to make use of a nose-gay, much use of your patented 'steely-eyed stare' and a good dollop of 'I'm-ill-you-know' for staff and surly teens. And a Hat-Box. Got to have a hat box.
It's bad in Manchester too bebs. Bill and I have stayed home. The first time Bill's stayed home for snow since 1986.Though the trains are still running some trams are not and it's continued snowing all day. I've never seen so many people walking ..all to the mecca which is our local tescos for provisions. Many are bringing home their goods on sledges ..tomorrow I suppose we will have to make the effort to walk knee deep to the station but if you can stay in by the fire reading christmas books ...I have the nabakov what a rip off...approx 6 lines to every two pages making a very thin book look awfully fat... still I forgive vlad and dmitri this publishing stunt for some of the best writing in the world...and eat nigel's adaptable bean soup ...feed the birds ...take down the decs ..it is rather wonderful. Take the train bebs and take care.
16.13 - not snowing in Brighton yet - bl**dy freezing though.
About 6" snow currently in Manchester, roads passable but even some of the main roads horribly slushy. Cars sliding and colliding in Asda car park and pavements very slippery. You make sure weather ok before venturing back up north, young man.
